An excellent history of seaplanes on Lake Union overall but I would've thought that there were two other at least of worthy mention. You did the shoot right in front of Seattle Seaplanes (formerly Chrysler Air) and I would've thought that Jim Chrysler would deserve a mention for having operated for so many years on the lake. The comment "as many as five operators in the 1980's" I would think deserves a mention of Clyde Carlson having owned Lake Union Air for a long time just north of the old Kurtzer building site, Kenmore is now just south of that site.
Still, an excellent history of the relationship between the city, lake and seaplanes.

How about identifying Henry J. "Hank" Reverman, the originator and owner of Lake Union Air Service. His picture follows the Kurtzer items.

I too am one of Kurtzer's student pilots that started on Lake Union in his faithful old Taylorcraft back in 1977. Jim Chrysler was working for Lana at the time. Lana could barely fit fold himself into the aircraft because of his 6' plus stature. I have many fond memories of flying out of Lake Union and working for flight time keeping records and moving airplanes around for Lana. I ended up working for Clyde Carlson flying C 206 airplanes up to and beyond the San Jaun Islands.
Great post and its nice to know this history will not be lost.

I was a ramp boy at Hank Reverman's Lake Union Air Service in 1949. I then went to work next door at Montie Pierce's Sky Harbor. Of course Lana Kurtzer was on the lake too. Bob Munro often came by Lake Union Air Service. Peter Bowers would fly his Aeronica O2 over to get fuel. I have flown in Alaska, land and sea. I got my seaplane rating before I could drive. I am glad to see that Lake Hood has correctly been listed as the most active seaplane operation.
