grew up in aviation all life, family, soloed at Hair Flying Service .Baton Rouge, La.1953 cessna in 3:15 ok to solo in my first of 5 log books, back then you had to do a 3 turn spin, roll our on a point just to solo with a parachure on. From there LSU,own airstrip in Florida, worked for North American Aviation at 'Eglin AFB Florida on B-52/Hound Dog Misslle . as a Flight Data Engineer on Missile team 1, from there to Downey ,Ca, was assigned to the X-15 program B-70, then Apollo Program and on to the Cape, from there back to NW Florida to help my dad run 4 new airports as FBO, the new Destin, Crestview, Milton and our own airport at Navarre, While this was going on Had 15 Airplanes Shrike Commander bought from North American Aviation President in Oak City ,Oklahoma, when i was at downey ca, work with Bob Hoover and Scott Crossfield whe then was with NAA
Our first Airplane dad bought from Werner Von Braun in Huntsville, Ala.,It was Cub Super Cruiser with a seat for two in the back and pilot seat in the front. We started out givining air rides for $5.oo each pass. Dad Soloed folks from Ft Walton Beach off the then 1200' strip at Navarre. we had a 1000 chickens in individual cages, that layed the eggs, that we lived off of to use the firtilizer from the chickens to grow the behia grass on the white sandy runway. Dad carved the 1200 foot strip with a push lawnmower. It was later pushed on to 2300 feet which it has had all these years, we are lookin from 1958 till now 2010..Its officially named: The Ft.
