The AOPA Summit this year has a entire display section dedicated to
pilot medical certification and health topics ranging from diets to
exercise to cholesterol levels. Warren Silberman, Manager of the
Civil Aeromedical Institute (the folks who approve pilot medicals)
is here working Special Issuance cases for pilots who have
experience problems with the process. Federal Air Surgeon, Fred
Tilton, will be here today.
In addtion, the display area has exercise specialist and equipment,
two different health organizations drawing blood and checking blood
pressures.
The idea is to not only get you medical but to stay healthy so you
do not have problems keeping your medical.
One thing was confirmed when I inquired, people on ADD/ADHD
medications will NOT qualify for a pilot medical. Not sure of the
logic here but the NO WAY was pretty emphatic!
